emmy (they\/them; iel) grew up in Newfoundland (Ktaqmkuk). They hold a PhD in critical social work and spent seven years working in bookselling and publishing. These days, their time is primarily spent caring for their family \u2013 including five cats and a Dalmatian \u2013 as a homemaker. They live in Kitchener, Ontario, on the Haldimand Tract, and spend time with their partner in Massachusetts, in Nipmuc territory, and listen to altogether too many podcasts on the highways in between.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

emmy is a literary writer, of both fiction and creative non-fiction. Their debut short story, 4 AM<\/em>, was published in issue 171 of The New Quarterly. They were shortlisted for Freefall Magazine’s Annual Prose and Poetry Contest 2024, and their non-fiction debut is forthcoming in an anthology with Book*hug Press. They were honoured to be a mentor for a Writers’ Union Mentorship Microgrant in 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

emmy works occasionally as a freelance researcher in the social sciences for organizations such as Ivy and Dean Consulting. When not commuting or writing, they spend their time cooking vegan food, playing make-believe, working on textile projects, and studying astrology. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n
